Our commitment

Our goal is to make information available to all. We understand that people experience the web in different ways, and we're committed to making our website accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.

CMI takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

• Integrate accessibility into our procurement practices.
• Have an appointed accessibility contact person.
• Carry out compliance reviews.
• Have alternative text on all images.
• Make information found in charts and diagrams accessible in alternative ways.
• Have captions on all videos.

Accessibility targets

We follow WCAG 2.0 AA which sets clear standards for colour contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility.

For example, this means you should be able to:

• Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings.
• Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen.
• Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

While we currently meet most of WCAG 2.0 AA standards, we're continuously working to improve and incorporate the latest WCAG 2.1 guidelines. This ensures our website stays up-to-date with the evolving needs of users with disabilities.

In addition to technical improvements, our communications staff are trained on accessibility best practices for content creation. This equips them to develop and implement accessible content, such as diagrams and written text, used on our website and online learning platforms.

Known limitation

• Some pages and documents use technical academic language.
• Forms use placeholder text, instead of labels placed above fields.
• We use several third-party tools, such as Highcharts and Vimeo, to deliver enhanced functionality. Some functions of these tools may not be fully accessible to all users.
• Some of our publications may include inaccessible diagrams acquired from other research papers.

Older website content

Older images, charts and diagrams may not have text alternatives. All new images from 2023 onwards should have a text alternative in place.

Older videos may be missing captions. All new videos from 2024 onwards should have captions available. Transcripts may also be provided on a case-by-case basis.

Older PDFs lack proper document tags, which are essential for screen readers to understand the structure and content of the document. From 2024 onwards, our auto-generated PDFs have working tags in place. Manually created PDFs will be exported with accessibility in mind.

Online training

Our online training is delivered via the Curatr platform (now known as Stream- by Learning Pool). Some functions of this platform may not be fully accessible to all users.

Course material on the platform includes content such as PDFs, videos, diagrams and interactive HTML modules (Rise 360). Older content may not meet our accessibility targets. From 2024 onwards, we actively consider accessibility needs for each item.

Assessment

CMI assessed the accessibility of www.u4.no by self-evaluation in late 2023. In 2024, we plan to conduct further accessibility reviews, including manual testing of certain issues such as focus indicators and screen reader proficiency.

Website

Axe DevTools – a browser plugin to check individual web pages – reported no critical WCAG 2.1 AA issues. The front page and a selection of topic pages, blog pages and publication pages, were checked.

PDFs

Pdf Accessibility Checker (PAC) was used to check for PDF/UA and WCAG 2.1 compliance for all PDFs auto-generated through DocRaptor, from 2024 onwards.

PDFs created through other means, eg from Microsoft Word or Indesign, have not been systematically tested.
